Course overview
The WellSharp® course is essential training for those working in wellsite supervisory roles and for office-based personnel that are primarily involved in the operational decision-making process and/or well design. The course aims to build on the Driller Level course content (including kick detection and shut-in) and focus on more complex aspects of well control and well kill methodology.
Course content
Day 1
Well barriers & standards for barriers
Well barrier elements and acceptance criteria
Responsibilities for well control& well integrity
Pressure calculations
Well control definitions & concepts
API Recommended Practices and API Specifications
U-tube analogy for well pressure calculations
Well control Equipment (BOP, Diverter, Flanges, Rings, Rams, etc…)
Kick tolerance
Kick causes, prevention & detection
Warning signs
Shallow gas
Well control preparation
Well shut-in procedures & first actions.

Day 3
Control equipment specifications
Well control equipment selection
Confirm shutting well in
Well control while tripping
Stripping operations
Killing procedures for deviated wells
Well control equipment installation and testing
Practical - Full scenario (kick detection, shut-in, circulate out kick) simulations with unexpected events included
Day 4
Killing procedure over view
Case studies
Complications in well control
The need to shut the well faster
Practical assessment test with simulator.
When not involved with the practical assessments, participants will be completing quiz tests.
Self-Study (using question bank) to prepare for written examinations
Course review and open discussion
Day 5
Group study - to facilitate questions/queries and discussions prior to written examination
Designed For
The Supervisor level course is designed for anyone working in a supervisory role and involved in the well design and operational decision-making process of drilling, such as a Drilling Supervisor, Superintendent or Company Man, Tool Pusher, OIM, or Rig Manager.
Course Delivery
The 5-day course is delivered through presentation of a series of interactive lectures supported by videos and animations, group discussion, and drilling simulation exercises, supplemented by a classroom workbook and further self-study exercises. The course ends with an online assessment on the final day which will be administered by and invigilated by an independent proctor.
Certification
Successful completion of the course and a pass mark of 70% or above on the written assessment and the simulator assessment will result in the WellSharp certification which is valid for two years.
The Trainers
Both trainers have 25 years of experience as a Well Engineer for a major O&G Company. Throughout their career, they were employed as a Drilling Supervisor and as a Well Engineering Learning Facilitator. They have a great interest and have been actively involved in the matter related to well control. They are an IWCF and IADC approved Instructor and Assessor and provides lectures on Well Engineering topics like Basic and Advanced Well Engineering, Stuck Pipe Prevention and HPHT Planning & Well Control.
