Course overview
This program is designed for people in critical well control positions on drilling installations as well as onshore roles. The candidates will complete an IWCF accredited training course, taught according to IWCF syllabus, in order to prepare them for assessment.

Identify completion types, equipment functions, and industry practices
Identify barrier systems and know the terminology
Identify well control methods
Identify solutions to various well control problems
Determine if well control equipment is fit for purpose
Design a well kill plan for a production well and generate a kill graph
Discuss production well kill problems and recommend appropriate solutions
Course Objectives
Set up for drilling
Recognize a drilling break and positive kick
Perform the shut-in within the shortest possible time in accordance with the appropriate procedure
Complete the kill sheet and kill the well using the designated procedure (Wait & Weight or Driller’s Method)
Bring the pump up to kill speed maintaining constant bottom hole pressure
Operate the remote choke and adjust in accordance with the time delay to maintain constant bottom hole pressure
Complete the well kill operation
Certification & Examination
The Level 3 and Level 4 Drilling Well control courses are based on:
Written assessments
A practical assessment + Simulator required
Candidates who pass the exam will be awarded IWCF certificates issued from IWCF in the UK Level Four: Simulator Required.
To pass the assessment and obtain a certificate, candidates must achieve a minimum mark of 70% in each section of the examination.
Each candidate is required to complete two written test papers which include multiple-choice questions and Kill Sheet calculations. All candidates are allowed between 1.5 and 2.5 hours to complete this section, depending on the options taken.

Practical Assessment
Candidates undertaking a Level 3 or 4 course will also complete a practical assessment which is usually conducted in pairs of a driller level candidate and a supervisor level candidate.
Candidates must:

Validation Periods
training consists of two written assessments and a practical assessment using simulator equipment. If passed, the certificate is valid for 2 years.
Course delivery
The course is delivered through lectures supported by animations, self-study exercises, and group discussions. The course concludes with two closed-book examinations leading to the required certificate of competence in well intervention.
