mselect is looking to hire an EIW Civil Engineer for an international energy client in Basrah, Iraq. Candidates must have a minimum of 10 years in civil engineering, with experience in large-scale construction projects, preferably within the oil and gas sector. Fluency in English is a must, and Arabic is a plus.

Job Purpose
  • Oversee civil construction activities at the site for the Early Infrastructure Works (EIW) package
  • Ensure that all civil engineering works are executed according to the design, quality, and safety standards
  • Collaborate closely with contractors, the Project Engineer, Quality Leads, and other disciplines to ensure successful delivery of the civil components
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory and company requirements while optimizing the use of local resources

Key Activities
  • Promote a strong Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) culture by ensuring that all civil engineering activities are performed safely and in compliance with the company’s HSE standards
  • Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential hazards and enforce safety measures
  • Oversee all civil construction activities, including excavation, foundation works, structural installations, conductor pipes installation and road works, to ensure compliance with design specifications and industry standards
  • Monitor the execution of civil works on-site, providing technical guidance and ensuring adherence to project schedules
  • Review civil engineering drawings, specifications, and other documentation to verify the feasibility and accuracy of designs
  • Coordinate with the Engineering Manager to resolve any discrepancies in the design and ensure that all civil work aligns with project requirements
  • Contribute to verifying that all civil construction activities comply with quality standards and project specifications
  • Work closely with the Quality Lead to conduct inspections, identify issues, and oversee the implementation of corrective actions
  • Collaborate with contractors, subcontractors, and other project team members to ensure effective communication and smooth workflow
  • Address any technical queries from contractors and provide engineering support to resolve site issues
  • Prepare and maintain detailed records of civil works, including daily site reports, and progress updates, monitor contractor’s look-ahead schedule and material usage
  • Report regularly to the Engineering Manager on civil work progress, quality concerns, and deviations from the project plan

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution of civil works for the Early Infrastructure Works package
  • Ensure that all civil engineering activities are completed in line with project quality, safety, and schedule requirements
  • Provide technical support to contractors and ensure civil works are carried out according to design specifications

Requirements
  • Level/Diploma: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years in civil engineering, with experience in large-scale construction projects, preferably in the oil and gas sector
  • Experience in a similar position: At least 5 years in a site-based civil engineering role
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles and construction practices; Ability to interpret engineering drawings, manage site activities, and resolve construction issues
  • Languages: Fluency in English; knowledge of Arabic is an advantage
  • Soft Skills: Communication skills; Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities; Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams
