Job Purpose
The Grid Substation Electrical Works Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and managing all electrical construction activities related to the Grid GIS Substation in a project in Basrah, Iraq.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure GIS Grid Substation electrical construction activities are performed without Lost Time Injuries (LTI), as specified, without major non-conformities, on cost, and on time
- Define and achieve relevant KPIs for the electrical construction phase
- Minimize exposure to claims from the EPC Contractor and ensure optimal electrical construction outcomes
- Promote HSE awareness and ensure compliance at all levels for electrical works
- Demonstrate exemplary behaviour regarding HSE rules and requirements for electrical works
Activities
Project Construction Management:
- Oversee and manage all electrical construction activities for the GIS Grid Substation
- Ensure that all electrical works are performed in compliance with project schedules, specifications, quality, budgets, and safety standards
- Coordinate with the Site Manager, HSE Manager, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure safe and efficient project execution
- Supervise and coordinate the efforts of GIS Grid Substation construction supervisors
- Conduct regular site inspections and meetings to monitor progress and address any issues related to electrical works
- Maintain detailed site records and reports
- Ensure the team is equipped with necessary and adequate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Interface with the EPC Contractor, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders
- Ensure that the electrical works progress aligns with the overall project schedule
- Develop detailed site project schedules and task execution sequences for GIS Grid Substation electrical works to the Construction Manager
- Supervise and provide guidance to supervisors and subcontractors regarding project progress and planning
- Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports to the Site Manager
- Control and report the Site Personnel on Board (POB) daily
- Work with the site planner to build necessary KPIs for electrical construction activities and follow up on actual progress versus planned
- Evaluate and submit to the Site Manager approval the recovery plans for delayed activities related to electrical works
- Manage on-site electrical personnel, including monitoring hours, activities, and absences
- Allocate resources effectively to meet critical electrical construction deadlines
- Propose site solutions to avoid progress impact and change order requests
- Implement and promote a robust safety culture and procedures for GIS Grid Substation electrical works
- Develop and enforce a comprehensive site safety program aligned with company standards
- Ensure all electrical tasks are supported by risk assessments and proper control measures
- Supervise and monitor safety practices specific to electrical works, promoting the Safety Stop Card program
- Conduct regular site inspections and safety audits for electrical works
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses related to electrical works, and implement corrective actions
- Organize site-specific safety orientation and training for all electrical workers and subcontractors
- Conduct regular toolbox talks and safety meetings specific to electrical works
- Maintain proper safety documentation for electrical works, including permits, inspections, and records
- Ensure compliance with safety rules by subcontractors working on electrical tasks
- Verify that electrical equipment, tools, and machinery are properly inspected and maintained
- Review safety performance metrics for electrical works and implement continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure clear and effective communication between electrical teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders on site
- Resolve conflicts and misunderstandings arising from poor communication related to electrical works
- Foster a positive and productive work environment for the electrical works team
- Resolve conflicts and implement appropriate solutions for electrical works issues
Requirements
- A bachelor’s or other similar degree in electrical construction/engineering
- 7-10 years of progressive experience in electrical construction site management, preferably with experience managing GIS Grid Substation
- EPC background and experience with a minimum of one project construction completed
- Knowledgeable on international standards and best practices in electrical construction
- Familiar with environmental legislation and good industry practice in electrical construction works
- IT proficiency, particularly in MS Word and MS Excel
- English and Arabic
