Job Purpose
The Legal Department Manager is tasked with overseeing and organizing all legal affairs within the organization. This role includes providing legal advice, preparing contracts, managing litigation, and ensuring compliance with both local and international laws and regulations. Additionally, the manager plays a crucial role in formulating legal policies that align with the group’s objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership:
- Lead and mentor the legal team, comprising lawyers and legal advisors
- Assign tasks and distribute responsibilities effectively
- Provide training and development opportunities to enhance the team’s legal expertise
- Offer legal advice to senior management and various departments
- Analyze existing laws and regulations, advising on their implications for business strategies
- Draft and review contracts to safeguard the organization’s interests
- Negotiate terms of agreements with external parties
- Monitor and manage legal cases involving the organization
- Coordinate with external legal counsel as necessary
- Provide regular updates to senior management on ongoing and upcoming cases
- Ensure adherence to local and international legal standards in all organizational activities
- Stay informed on legislative changes and update internal policies accordingly
Oversee all legal matters related to necessary licenses and permits for the organization’s operations.
Legal Reporting:
Prepare legal reports for senior management, analyzing legal risks and proposing solutions.
Crisis Management:
Address complex legal issues or crises that may arise within the organization.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in law from an accredited institution, preferred in Advanced legal studies certificate or master’s degree in law
- Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years in the legal field, including supervisory or leadership experience
- Skills: Strong negotiation abilities; Proficient in analyzing complex legal issues and making informed decisions; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Capable of working under pressure and resolving issues effectively
