Job Purpose
The IT Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, monitoring, and managing the IT infrastructure of the organization. This role involves ensuring the availability, performance, and security of IT systems and services. The ideal candidate will have a solid technical background, excellent troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities
System and Network Maintenance:
- Manage the installation, configuration, and maintenance of hardware, software, and network systems (including servers, routers, firewalls, and switches)
- Monitor network performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure network security
- Ensure data backups and disaster recovery procedures are effective and tested regularly
Technical Support:
- Provide technical support to internal and external stakeholders
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues, escalating to higher-level engineers when necessary
- Maintain accurate records of all support requests and solutions
Infrastructure Development:
- Work with the IT team to design, implement, and maintain robust IT infrastructure
- Recommend and implement system and network improvements to optimize performance and reduce downtime
- Assist in the development and execution of IT projects
Cybersecurity:
- Implement security policies and practices to protect against unauthorized access, viruses, malware, and cyber threats
- Ensure that systems are patched and updated in compliance with security standards
Documentation and Training:
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of systems configurations, procedures, and issues
- Provide training to staff on IT systems and cybersecurity best practices
Collaboration:
- Collaborate with different departments to ensure their IT needs are met efficiently
- Work with vendors and external consultants to procure IT services and hardware
Continuous Improvement:
- Stay updated with the latest IT trends and technologies
- Proactively seek opportunities to improve and streamline the IT environment
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Experience: 3-5 years of experience in IT engineering, systems administration, or network administration
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in managing Windows and Linux server environments, Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V, etc), In-depth knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, etc), Strong understanding of cybersecurity practices, including firewalls, VPNs, and encryption, Familiarity with cloud services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) is a plus, Experience with scripting languages (PowerShell, Python, etc) Is desirable
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, Excellent verbal and written communication skills, Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team, Adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies
- Certifications (Optional but preferred): CompTIA A+, Network+ or Security+, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
