Job Purpose
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer with specialized expertise in pumps used in downstream oil and gas facilities. The ideal candidate will lead field-based activities, including the installation, alignment, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, and rehabilitation of pumping systems critical to refining and petrochemical operations. The role demands hands-on technical leadership to ensure the reliability, efficiency, and safety of pump systems in compliance with international standards.
Key Responsibilities
Installation and Commissioning:
- Supervise installation, alignment, and commissioning of centrifugal and positive displacement pumps
- Ensure proper mechanical fit-up, tolerances, and system integration for seamless start-up
- Conduct performance validation and support troubleshooting during the commissioning phases
- Plan and execute preventive and corrective maintenance of pumps across downstream facilities
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective measures for recurrent failures
- Lead rehabilitation, retrofitting, and equipment upgrades to enhance performance and reliability
- Ensure compliance with international standards (API 610, ISO, ASME) and client-specific requirements
- Enforce health and safety protocols during all site activities, ensuring safe and compliant work environments
- Collaborate with OEMs and service providers for site support and spares management
- Oversee OEM representatives during installation, testing, or major overhauls
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance, commissioning, and inspection activities
- Prepare technical reports, RCA documentation, and field progress updates for management
- Guide and train technicians and junior engineers on maintenance procedures and site safety practices
- Share knowledge on diagnosing and resolving pump performance issues on-site
Requirements
Education:
Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of mechanical engineering experience with strong hands-on exposure to site-based work
- Proven background in the field installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of pump systems in downstream oil and gas operations
- Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred
- Certification in vibration analysis or condition monitoring is an advantage
- Strong understanding of pump principles, alignment techniques, and mechanical tolerances
- Proficiency in diagnostic tools (vibration analysis, thermography, alignment instruments)
- Excellent leadership and problem-solving abilities in high-pressure field environments
- Fluency in English and Arabic is required
