Technical Director

mselect is looking to hire a Technical Director for a hospitality client in Erbil, Iraq. Candidates must have a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience. Fluency in English, Kurdish and Arabic is a must.

JOB SUMMARY
The Technical Director is responsible for overseeing, maintaining, and safeguarding the technical assets used in various events, including the management of lighting, sound, screens, communications equipment, and other technical facilities. This role ensures that all technical aspects of events are executed smoothly, efficiently, and safely.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage and oversee the setup, use, and maintenance of audio, lighting, and video equipment during events
  • Ensure the safety and security of all technical equipment and personnel
  • Determine the necessary technical support required for events, such as lighting, sound, staging, and special needs, in advance of event dates
  • Coordinate sound, staging, visual, and lighting requirements for each event
  • Work with the venue and vendors to ensure all technical needs are met
  • Collaborate with the operations team and clients to understand and fulfil their technical requirements
  • Provide technical advice to the operations department and assist with cost estimates as required
  • Troubleshoot any technical issues that may arise during the event
  • Monitor the condition of equipment, including lighting, sound, and rigging, and arrange for repair and replacement within budgetary constraints
  • Purchase new equipment and replace failing equipment as needed
  • Ensure all technical elements are in place and functioning correctly before and during events
  • Assist in recruiting, training, and assigning volunteer or paid technical staff for individual events
  • Arrange technical training for the team
  • Supervise the implementation of approved technical designs to ensure quality and compliance with client expectations
  • Supervise and assist with the setup, use, and maintenance of technical equipment during events
  • Make recommendations to the Chief Executive Officer regarding capital purchases of technical equipment

REQUIREMENTS

Educational Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in a similar role
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong skills in managing lighting, sound, and screen equipment
  • Team Management: Ability to manage and train technical staff effectively
  • Safety Knowledge: Understanding of safety regulations and best practices in technical event production
  • Live Event Production Experience: Familiarity with live event production and a solid understanding of the event management industry
  • Fluency in English, Kurdish and Arabic is a must
