Job purpose:
To work within a team in the secondary manufacturing department to operate and attend breakdowns on at least one SMD making machine to ensure that the uptime of the machines is optimised, and manufacture of cigarettes is according to the production plan and within the defined quality parameters.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Operation:
- Check all the required material to ensure that they are corresponding with the BOM
- Run machine to achieve required production volumes in required brand mix, product quality and machine efficiency according to defined manufacturing procedures
- Attend to machine stoppages and diagnose the relevant problems
- Define all mechanical defects prior to the maintenance activities and communicate with team members and engineers
- Checks spare parts are available before periodic maintenance activities
- Performs weekly, monthly and annual maintenance activities on the machine
- Reports parameters supplied by the machine in the daily shift production report
- Manage all tobacco waste from the machine in the appropriate manner
- Support all trials requested by Quality Assurance department & helps Quality Assurance staff during their routine samplings
- Follow up on reporting of cleaning, Inspection, & Lubrication and Defect Handling DMS’s
- Ensure proper execution of DMS’s to ensure adherence of standards
- Responsible for performance of the line including # of stops
- Put proper countermeasures for break down and process failures
- Part of the team to ensure proper handover and share shift top losses with following shift (8hr)
- Propose action against losses - Escalate if needed
- Ensure appropriate usage of SAP system, maintenance notification, orders and spare parts
- Checks cigarettes produced by making machine visually
- Perform visual and physical checks of the product in every 15 minutes
- Takes actions on the machine settings according to the result of above checks
- Uses test/trial material pallets and fill related check lists and/or reports
- Comply with laid down safety, health & environmental standards regarding personal safety
- Keep working area clean and tidy and take necessary action to correct unsafe conditions
- Ensure proper lock out, tag out for equipment within area of responsibility
- Use personal safety equipment and inspect it for proper functionality
- Inform relevant parties immediately in the event of any wrong and/or damaged material usage
- Communicates on an on-going basis with the other team members
- The SMD is responsible for the direct conversion of raw material and cut rag tobacco into finished product within a framework of predefined systems and procedures
- The department is expected to operate and maintain SMD machines, troubleshooting any machine stoppages and breakdowns in the minimum time to ensure achievement of the production plan
- The department is also responsible for maintaining consistent quality of the product which is manufactured according to the best practice quality standards
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- Technical high school education (mechanical/electrical/electronics)
- At least 3 years’ experience in a production related industry
- Ability to communicate well with other team members
- Ability to use mechanical and measuring equipment
- Ability to work with designated procedures and forms
- Proficient in English reading, written and spoken
- Machine performance and relevant SMD KPIs consistently high
- High level of communication
- Self-Development to become a Shift Manager
- Shift Supervisor / Lead: Guidance, Feedback, Reporting, Development
