mselect is looking to hire an Environmental and Sustainability Coordinator for an international energy client in Basrah, Iraq. Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in ESIA processing for solar projects. Fluency in English and Arabic is a must.

Job Purpose
As the E&S Coordinator, you will be responsible for overseeing and enhancing environmental and social compliance during the development and construction phases. This role requires adherence to client and applicable international requirements set by lenders.

Key Responsibilities

Lead E&S management for the SPV:
  • Adopt and deploy Projects, the Company’s E&S standards, ambitions, and commitments
  • Ensure Project is compliant with applicable regulation and standards all along its lifetime (local regulation, lenders’ requirements - IFC, Company standards and commitments towards E&S)
  • Define and follow up on the status of the project’s E&S studies and plans, associated planning and budgets
  • Raise, report and resolve any E&S incident
  • Report the progress of E&S activities to the SPV HSE Management and support in reporting to the Company head office
  • Participate and be the SPV representative during meetings with key external stakeholders/communities and during site visits (with Authorities/Consultants/Lenders/Contractors)
  • Prepare, manage, and update SPP E&S Management System and Plans (including Stakeholder Engagement Plan, Grievance mechanism, Biodiversity Management Plan etc.) in close cooperation
Transversal coordination:
  • Be the Project E&S focal point
  • Ensure close coordination with the affiliate E&S team
  • Ensure close coordination with the REN E&S team
  • Gather and consolidate Project E&S reporting database (including Substantial KPIs) and ensure timely reporting as per Projectand other applicable requirements
  • Participate in various HSE and E&S coordination meetings where required
  • Participate in various environmental risk evaluations for audits or technical reviews for internal approval processes if requested
Supervise lender's E&S Due Diligence process:
  • Be the E&S focal point for the Lenders and the Technical advisor consultant through the ESDD process
  • Ensure E&S studies quality control and validate deliverables
  • Request timely support from the E&S experts of the Company headquarters for the revision and validation of the scope of work and studies deliverables
Ensure implementation of E&S requirements by Contractors:
  • Review and approve EPC Construction E&S management plans (CESMP) before the EPC contract signature and commencement date (for both OHTL and PV)
  • Monitor and control good implementation of EPC CESMP
  • Ensure good coordination between EPC CESMP and SPV ESMS
  • Participate in HSE meetings with Contractors’ Env. Manager and CLRs, and ensure E&S topics are raised and taken care of
  • Conduct E&S site inspections regularly
Ensure Social Performance Strategy is adhered to:
  • Ensure reporting to the Sustainability Manager and coordination with the Sustainability team for all Social Performance Matters
  • Ensure SP Requirements are applied & Reported by Solar Contractors to affiliates via enforced mechanisms

Key Accountabilities
Ensure ongoing compliance with local regulations, lender requirements (IFC), and Company E&S commitments throughout the project lifecycle.

Requirements
  • Diploma in Environmental Engineering or a related field
  • Proficiency in English and Arabic (both written and spoken) at an advanced level
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in ESIA processing for solar projects
  • Experience in environmental and social management during construction
  • Proven experience in local stakeholder management
  • High level of knowledge and understanding of the Iraqi HSE regulations
  • Demonstrate Good skills in transverse management
  • Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to HSE topics
  • Demonstrate organisation and agility
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience in developing, implementing, and continuously improving health & safety, and environment management systems requirements
  • Competence in MS Office software applications is necessary
