JOB OBJECTIVE
Plans, initiates and coordinates all geological/ geophysical activities to ensure quality and timely delivery of the geological & geophysical contents of field development work. Liaises with reservoir, petroleum engineering teams to ensure the overall quality of the team’s product. Ensures timely integration of geological plans, coordinates and participates in the day-to-day activities of other development personnel members of assigned field development team. Contributes to the preparation of the team’s budget by integrating G&G section requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversees geological/ geophysical activities maintain and improve field subsurface understanding. Identify the knowledge gap and drive the study to help reducing subsurface uncertainties
- Initiate, coordinate and execute advanced geological/ geophysical studies related to the reservoir, to be carried out in-house or outsource
- Provide support and feedback to Subsurface manager on the specialist studies project. Identify a work sharing session opportunity to share knowledge between the teams for the purpose on integration
- Maintain/ build 3D reservoir geological model of the field and shallow wastewater disposal reservoir. Provide input for, and lead where needed, integrated reservoir modelling activities
- Incorporate all new well, geological, geophysical data/information, etc. to improve the understanding of the field and will be accountable for the geophysical data and seismic interpretation
- Ensure the best geological support provided to the Well and Reservoir management activities for both oil producers well and water injection wells
- Responsible for tracking of any geological data/ information that have been transmitted between host authority/partner and the company
- Accountable for geological database and work together with data management team to identify any database issue and the solution. Responsible for all quality control and data management related to field geological data and seismic data
- Presentation/engagement of any new geological studies and its outcome to management, partners and government agencies to share/discuss and look for advice for improvement/way forward
- Actively participate in company networks to develop and implement best practices and standards in subsurface geology/geophysics knowledge and activity
- Supervise the planning of new well from identify well path toward acquisition program. Provide/write well proposal and follow up operation until the well completion
- Responsible for reviews and assurance of technical work. Coordinate and execute reviews and audits of seismic interpretation and production geological work
- Coaching of less experienced G&G and other technical professionals
- Super user for Petrel and supports the company's G&G community on the application usage
- To prepare related studies such as Adhoc studies to determine justifications for any deviations/anomalies in drilling results and propose forward plan
- To ensure that all innovative technological applications, technical information and expertise learned from Partners, other Operators, Consultants or Contractors is forwarded or shared not only within the team but also on the appropriate technical forums within the organization to disseminate learnings across the board
- Performs other similar or related duties such as coordinating the preparation of periodic activity reports; preparing work programs for field operations, assigning staff to such operations and providing necessary guidance as required, preparing the geological, geophysical and petrophysics input in the assigned field development budget, verifying assigned contractors/consultants’ invoices, and editing the fields contribution to the division’s publications/reports
- Edits and coordinates preparation of proposals for appraisal wells to assess reserves of prospective reservoirs and extension of producing and/ or development of reservoir within assigned field. Includes reviewing new data, recommending location for appraisal drilling, coordinating the collation and compilation of reports on each prospect, assigning operations geologists to monitor work progress, identifies and recommends changes to agreed programs as required
- Coordinates and participates in the preparation of drilling, logging, coring and well testing programs for development and appraisal of wells, coordinates formation evaluation analysis and description of well data. Includes microscopic examination of cuttings, cores and timely identification of hydrocarbon; analysis and testing of petrophysical data and direction of geology operation staff on wellsite
- Demonstrate safety leadership and strongly advocate Health Safety and Environment (HSE) policies and guidelines. Ensure clear description and communication of subsurface risks during drilling of new wells
- Ensure compliance with all relevant HSSE management policies, procedures and controls within own area, monitoring, reviewing and evaluating on a continuous basis, and a responsible environmental attitude
- Leading by example and develop a strong safety-first culture within the own and (sub)contractor workforce
- Manage the activities and work performed by contractors and ensure that it is carried out in an efficient and effective manner. Build good relationships with key stakeholders
- Recommend training and development for team members to build their capabilities.
- Contribute to knowledge dissemination/sharing in a way that assists with building internal capabilities of employees
- Develop overview of contractor’s strength and weaknesses and intervene as and when required exercising contractual rights
- Contribute to company’s CSR strategy execution
- Contribute to the preparation of timely and accurate reports to meet requirements, policies and standards
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
- BSc. degree in Geology or Geoscience, MSc. degree is preferred.
- Have several years of working in a similar role, working as a senior level technical geoscientist, ideally with experience of working on carbonate fields
- Plus 12 years’ experience in development geology, geological study; at least 6 years in operating company
- Understand the key carbonate subsurface uncertainties and its impact to the reservoir behaviour
- Good overview of exploration, development and production phases
- Able for the coordination and integration of G&G findings with the work of other field development teams’ activities, guided by field development objectives and specialized professional standards
Skills
- Initiative and desire to learn and expand within role
- Sound sedimentological and petrophysical background, understanding of reservoir characterization and 3D modelling techniques, basic seismic interpretation abilities, competence with mapping techniques
- Understands and can integrate core and log data into a cohesive reservoir model & build representative reservoir rock types
- Skill in project management from project inception
- Strong presentation/communication skills, ability to communicate subsurface technical/ geological concepts in easy and understandable terms to non-subsurface staff
