mselect is looking to hire a GIS Specialist for an international energy client in Basrah, Iraq. Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years in the development of energy and renewables projects. Fluency in English is a must.

Job Purpose
The overall objective of the Geospatial Data Analyst is to build, support, and maintain key company geographical databases, automated workflows, projects, and services associated with geospatial data.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accountable for the integrity, organization, security and availability of geospatial data and cartographic documents
  • Accountable for compliance with relevant HQ Company Rules, Specifications and Guidelines associated with Geospatial data are followed
  • Accountable for adherence to the Company HSE (Safety, Health and Environment) policy followed within the context of this role and actively participate in company safety awareness and initiatives

Key Activities
  • Build, support and maintain GIS (Geographical Information Systems) geospatial database integrity for the GGIP, utilising prescribed data models, continually updating with incoming data and monitoring the quality of new data
  • Co-build and maintain GIS geospatial data management procedures for the project
  • Propose, deliver and implement appropriate GIS workflows and procedures to improve data management processes and data transfer where required
  • Co-build and maintain WebGIS and GIS desktop delivery solutions for the project
  • Produce and manage complex cartographic documents using HQ technical specifications, procedures & standards, rules & processes for the project
  • Co-build GIS studies such as facilities layouts, Pipe and cable routings and site selection and undertake analyses for decision support
  • Contribute to data acquisition operations in geomatics (e.g. topography, remote sensing), engineering (e.g. geophysical or geotechnical surveys) or HSE surveys (e.g. environmental baseline, monitoring surveys, ERW) from definition of needs to validation of deliverables
  • Execute appropriate geodetic calculations where required
  • Organise and provide GIS application support to end users or internal team
  • Follow up on the development, assessment and implementation of GIS and cartographic solutions and propose enhancement tools
  • Closely cooperate with HQ geospatial data information specialists for all GIS-related matters
  • Closely follow, use & contribute to the development, drafting, updating and/or management of Technical Reference documents for this speciality
  • Collaborate, contribute and exchange know-how related to Geographical Information Systems
  • Promote and encourage the use of geographical information environment and data

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s/master’s degree in Geographical Information Systems, Geosciences or Information Management disciplines
  • Professional experience of at least 5 years in the development of energy and renewables projects
  • Very strong proven skills and knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (including ESRI ArcGIS Suite including ArcGIS for Desktop and ArcSDE database, Geoserver and possibly QGIS) and Cartographic Tools (including AutoCAD and/or MicroStation)
  • Programming skills and aptitude in Python and SQL
  • Good knowledge of Geodesy
  • Proven analytical and communications skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision to tight deadlines
  • Willingness to help support and develop others

  • The working language is English (spoken and written)
