JOB DIMENSIONS
The Mechanical & Structural Works Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and managing all OHTL Mechanical and structural assembly lifting, and mechanical completion activities related to the OHTL electrical towers for all SPP project in Basra, Iraq.
ACTIVITES
Project Construction Management:
- Oversee and manage all Mechanical & Structural construction activities for the OHTL electrical towers
- Ensure that all Mechanical & Structural works are performed in compliance with project schedules, specifications, quality, budgets, and safety standards
- Coordinate with the Construction Manager, HSE Manager, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure safe and efficient project execution
- Approve the assembly and Lifting procedure for the OHTL electrical towers
- Supervise and coordinate the efforts of OHTL mechanical and structural supervisors
- Conduct regular site inspections and meetings to monitor progress and address any issues related to OHTL mechanical and structural assembly, lifting and mechanical completion works
- Maintain detailed site records and reports
- Ensure the team is equipped with necessary and adequate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Interface with the EPC Contractor, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders
- Ensure that the OHTL electrical tower assembly, lifting and mechanical completion works progress aligns with the overall project schedule
- Develop detailed site project schedules and task execution sequences for OHTL electrical tower assembly, lifting and mechanical to the Construction Manager
- Supervise and provide guidance to mechanical and structural supervisors and subcontractors regarding project progress and planning
- Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports to the Construction Manager
- Control and report the Site Personnel on Board (POB) daily
- Work with the site planner to build necessary KPIs for electrical construction activities and follow up on actual progress versus planned
- Evaluate and submit to the construction manager approval the recovery plans for delayed activities related to the OHTL electrical tower assembly, lifting and mechanical works
- Manage on-site electrical personnel, including monitoring hours, activities, and absences
- Allocate resources effectively to meet critical OHTL electrical tower assembly, lifting and mechanical electrical construction deadlines
- Propose site solutions to avoid progress impact and change order requests
- Implement and promote a robust safety culture and procedures for OHTL electrical tower assembly, lifting and mechanical works
- Develop and enforce a comprehensive site safety program aligned with company standards
- Ensure all OHTL electrical tower tasks are supported by risk assessments and proper control measures
- Supervise and monitor safety practices specific to the OHTL electrical tower works, promoting the Safety Stop Card program
- Conduct regular site inspections and safety audits for OHTL electrical tower works
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses related to OHTL electrical tower works and implement corrective actions
- Organize site-specific safety orientation and training for all structural and mechanical workers and subcontractors
- Conduct regular toolbox talks and safety meetings specific to OHTL electrical tower works
- Maintain proper safety documentation for electrical works, including permits, inspections, and records
- Ensure compliance with safety rules by subcontractors working on OHTL electrical tower tasks
- Verify that electrical equipment, tools, and machinery are properly inspected and maintained
- Review safety performance metrics for OHTL electrical tower works and implement continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure clear and effective communication between electrical teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders on site
- Resolve conflicts and misunderstandings arising from poor communication related to electrical works
- Foster a positive and productive work environment for the electrical works team
- Resolve conflicts and implement appropriate solutions for OHTL electrical tower works issues
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Ensure OHTL mechanical and structural construction activities are performed without Lost Time Injuries (LTI), as specified, without major non-conformities, on cost, and on time
- Define and achieve relevant KPIs for the electrical construction phase
- Minimize exposure to claims from the EPC Contractor and ensure optimal OHTL mechanical and structural construction outcomes
- Promote HSE awareness and ensure compliance at all levels for OHTL mechanical and structural works
- Demonstrate exemplary behaviour regarding HSE rules and requirements for electrical works
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
- A bachelor’s or other similar degree in OHTL mechanical and structural construction
- 7-10 years of progressive experience in OHTL mechanical and structural construction site management, preferably with experience managing OHTL mechanical and structural assembly, lifting and mechanical completion
- EPC background and experience with a minimum of one project construction completed
- Knowledgeable on international standards and best practices in electrical construction
- Familiar with environmental legislation and good industry practice in electrical construction works
- Lifting certification or another document to prove the experience and competency in lifting operations
- IT proficiency, particularly in MS Word and MS Excel
- Fluency in English and Arabic is a must
